INSTITUTIONAL PROJECTS

University of California, San Francisco, CA

Master Planning - Mission Bay. Assisted in the development of a long-range infrastructure master plan for development of utilities and surface roadways in and around their 49 acre Mission Bay campus.

Master Planning - UCSF, Mt. Zion Campus. Presently involved in the update of the Mt. Zion Campus Master Plan, providing an existing utility investigation, land surveys and preliminary design and concept cost estimates for several campus site development options.

Civil Design - UCSF, Mission Bay. Prepared site improvement and utility plans for a multi-story research laboratory building (24A/B), including a 60-space parking area.

Civil Design - UCSF, Mt. Zion and Parnassus Heights. Telecommunications and pneumatic tube interconnects. KCA was responsible for the design of joint trench facilities in congested public streets and precise placement of services entering buildings.

Civil Design - Other UCSF Projects. KCA has provided planning, engineering and surveying services on several other UCSF sites in the last 20 years, including the Vision Center, West Side Parking and Housing, and several survey projects.

University of California, Berkeley, CA: Seismic Replacement

Civil design of site grading, drainage and utility connections for a 4 story, 69,000 SF classroom and office building. Scope included improvement plans for work in an adjacent city street.

University of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA

Civil Design - McLaren School of Business. Prepared site improvement, grading and utility plans for a new 4 story classroom building on a steep site.

Civil Design - Kendrick Hall. Prepared topographic map and designed public improvements around the site perimeter for the renovation of the existing law school. Scope included the design of new entrances to the underground parking facility from an extremely steep adjacent street.

Surveying - Memorial Gymnasium. Prepared topographic map for the existing public improvements for an addition to the gymnasium.

The Hamlin School, San Francisco – Renovation Project

Designed site improvements for renovation of two buildings including grading and drainage and new utility connections, in addition, KCA provided topographic surveying.

Carondelet High School, Concord

KCA prepared a topographic survey using aerial reconnaissance. We set photogrammetric survey control and provided supplemental field surveys in areas which could not be seen from the air. KCA also designed three parking lot area.

City College of San Francisco Track Measurement

KCA measured and marked starting lines for various NCAA events. Locations of marked positions were established by All American Tracks Engineers.

City College of San Francisco Children’s Center

KCA Engineers prepared site surveys encompassing two areas: the play field, school building and the fence area surrounding the Center and up the hill to the street.

UCSF Mission Bay Campus ALTA Survey, San Francisco

In 1998, we were engaged by The Regents of the University of California to prepare an ALTA survey for the then pending transfer of lands from Catellus Development Corporation and the City and County of San Francisco. The first phase transfer provided the initial 26.5 acres for UCSF's Mission Bay Campus. The survey required extensive and careful research regarding title matters, including State Trust interests, prior and pending street vacations and utility easements. Subsequent to completion of the ALTA survey and execution of the land transfer agreements, KCA was selected as civil engineer for the first lab building on the campus.

Pneumatic Tube and Telecommunications Facility - Mt. Zion Campus, UCSF

KCA provided surveying, existing utility investigation and civil design services for the routing of pneumatic tube conveyance and telecommunication systems in public street areas linking several University buildings at the Mt. Zion campus in San Francisco. KCA assisted in the drafting of unique easement documents for these lines. The project required careful plotting of existing utilities because the design parameters for the pneumatic lines did not allow for abrupt changes in alignment in order to avoid conflicts with intersecting lines.

Bessie Carmichael Elementary School, San Francisco

KCA Engineering provided topographic surveys for this half acre site. Our civil design work included new curb, gutter and sidewalks around the perimeter of the site and, in association with the landscape architect, we designed grading and drainage improvements in various play areas. Surveys and design work was particularly challenging in the public rights-of-way because of difficult conforms with existing facilities.

Berkeley High School Horizontal Track Certification

KCA's survey scope involved the precise layout of athletic facilities in accordance with NCAA standards. Particularly challenging was the design and field layout of a new running track insuring precise measurements for various running events and lengths.
